FAI continues to grow in order to enhance services to our members, further deliver on our mission, and meet the international scope of our work. We are a small but mighty crew, and we are thrilled to welcome another talented professional to our FAI family.
Welcome Erika C. Noguera to the FAI team as our new Communications Manager.
Erika is passionate about community development and civic engagement, believing that an engaged and empowered society is the strongest force of nature. She worked as a community organizer in the neighborhoods of Kansas City’s urban core and on a historic presidential campaign. Erika served in leadership roles at beloved community non-profit, The Mattie Rhodes Center, and at the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Institute for Human Development, and Division of Diversity and Inclusion. Most recently, Erika led the development of a new speaker's bureau and traveling thought leadership programs for a national events marketing firm. She is thrilled to be working with Folk Alliance International to engage the global folk music community through consistent, thoughtful, and innovative communications. Erika studied Anthropology at the University of Kansas, received her EMBA from UMKC, and is a fledgling ukulele player.
FAI has proudly featured a paid internship program for the past two years as on-the-job training, course-related practical experience, and professional development for college students who are interested in the music industry, folk music community, and arts administration. Internships are primarily focused on support of the day-to-day operations of the organization, with primary activity related to membership, marketing, research, and event planning.
Meet our summer interns. FAI is grateful to be working with these amazing women.
Marisa Kolka is a senior public relations student at the University of Central Missouri. She also studies Spanish and will be attending the University of Alcalá in Spain this fall. After graduation, she hopes to do PR for either a nonprofit or work in an ad or marketing agency. Eventually, she would love to move somewhere where she can speak a lot of Spanish. When she isn’t at one of her two summer internships, she loves bike riding, knitting, exploring the city, and taking long naps on the couch.
Bre Jacobs recently graduated from Lincoln College Preparatory Academy in Kansas City. She completed the KCPS Early College Academy program and received an Associate's degree from Penn Valley Community College. She is a singer and actress who performs locally. This fall Bre will be attending Columbia College Chicago and as of right now, she plans on studying Contemporary, Urban, Popular Music and Marketing.
We are now accepting applications for Fall internships. Please apply here.

Thank you to everyone who helped us reconnect with past board members with whom we lost contact; however, there are still some folks on that elusive list. If you are in contact with anyone named below, please let them know we are hoping to connect as we prepare for our 30th annual conference in 2018. You can also send contact information to email@example.com.
Heartfelt thanks to the anonymous donor who left a media cart outside our Kansas City office. It has already been put to great use.
There are still a number of items on FAI's in-kind wish list. Be a folk music hero, and check out the list here. FAI will provide a tax deduction letter in exchange for all donations.
