The inimitable Vance Gilbert will kick off the new Fall season at the Borderline with a performance on September 23. Special guest Tom Cardullo will open the show.

Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the 90’s when Boston area folk clubs heard the buzz about someone who was knocking ‘em dead at local open mikes. Word of his storytelling sensibilities, vocal and guitar chops spread to NYC and Shawn Colvin invited him to be a special guest on her national Fat City tour. He took audiences across the country by storm.
Vance became a favored opener for such artists as Aretha Franklin, Arlo Guthrie and Anita Baker. In 2006 and 2007 he opened over 140 shows for comedian George Carlin. Recently, he has been the opener of choice for The Subdudes and comedian Paul Reiser. With 12 critically acclaimed albums, Vance continues to refine his unlikely union of humor, virtuosity and the unexpected. Whether with classic, original songwriting or ageless interpretations of covers, his is a presentation steeped in deep humanism and bravery, stunning artistry and soul and contagious unbridle joy. His jazz roots make their way into songs with sophisticated melodies and harmonies. His singing, playing and storytelling have made Vance an integral part of the national folk scene. The Boston Globe says he is “that rare performer for whom people lean forward in their seats as eagerly between songs as they do during them.”
