Pretend Sweethearts - Mystic Americana Noir Locked Topic 0 B. Blackbird We are so stoked to return to FAI! Looking for showcase spots.  Pretend Sweethearts - we are a duo of songwriter/multi-instrumentalists blending our voices into songs of love and loss, spiritual yearning and social justice. Our music is a blend of Southern, West Coast and World roots music - a 21st century folk amalgam that embodies, and perhaps transcends, cosmic americana. Upright bass and pedal steel, guitar and banjo, South American drums and a good ol’ fashioned tambourine shape a music that is well-traveled but still identifiably American. We met while studying music therapy in Portland, Oregon. We toured the Western US, playing a slew of bars, clubs and café’s but also put considerable energy into performing in homeless shelters, youth detention centers, prisons and rehab facilities. We fell in love as they followed our path, and made an adventure of life on the road - sleeping on beaches, on couches, in caves, and under redwoods. We moved to a Bolivian mountainside in 2015, where our son was born, and eventually settled in Atlanta, where we are now based, taking our children with us on US and Europe tours.        “...orchard-ripe tunes...delicately gorgeous...”— The Portland Mercury “...sweet harmonies, delicate instrumentation, and socially/spiritually conscious lyricism...”— Creative Loafing, Atlanta, GA American Songwriter - Daily Discovery "Bird Song" 2015 Find us at: 503-989-6190 Many thanks,   Drew & Bri

But it’s not surprising to learn that she has studied classical guitar—or that she decided what to do with her life after hearing Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone.”  ….  If such songs are autobiographical, De Leon’s life hasn’t been easy: in any event, she clearly finds comfort in her music, and I suspect you will, too.’ Steve Wine, No Depression  ‘Her voice is reminiscent of Maria Muldaur, but Bianca De Leon is the current specialist Tex - Mex ballads. Superb.’ Roman Decoret, Guitarist Magazine, FR ‘Beautiful haunting songs out of the south Texas borderlands.’ Tim Boxer, 15 Minutes, US ‘De Leon is a writer and singer of note who has produced an album that works on several levels and is the work of a person who has lived life to get to this place. A place worth getting to.’ Steven Rapid, Lonesome Highway, US ‘Who ever saw a concert by Bianca undoubtedly know what I mean, this lady has the ability to you, though you're somewhere in the Netherlands, to look at her and listen, and get the feeling that you are in Texas. This lady writes, I think, quite often from their own experience and that you can hear that this is credible, this sounds lived, this goes right to the heart—‘ (Dani Heyvaert) Rootstime BE ‘I Sang Patsy Cline’ is a story that any singer would give her soul to have been able to write truthfully.’ R2 Rock N Reel, UK “Bianca’s songwriting has matured into a ripe fruit, texture, flesh and juice. You can bite into her songs, tearing the pulp with teeth, with juice running down your chin” Robert Earl Hardy, A Deeper Blue, The Life and Music of Townes Van Zandt ‘Wistful tales of love and loss and that feeling which forms in the décor of the local cantinas and bars where broken hearts hide somewhere in a dark corner to lick their wounds. Bianca De Leon is not to be underestimated songstress.’ Door Cis van Looy, Written In Music, NL

Olivia Awbrey, Portland, OR Locked Topic 0 O. Awbrey Contact: 503-939-3407, Category: Folk/Singer-Songwriter/Rock Location: Portland, Oregon   Formerly the frontwoman of Small Joys, I forged my own direction in 2014 when I wrote a new batch of songs and self-recorded and self-released my EP 'New Wheels.' Inspired by folk-punk musicians and the mixture of traditional folk with modern electric experimentation, my songs resemble a rock 'n' roll Woody Guthrie. I have been touring nearly non-stop since 2014 in order to truly pursue music. I've been lucky to cross touring paths or share stages with the likes of The Shook Twins, Rabbit Wilde, Sean Rowe, The Lowest Pair, and luckily enough Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary. I am currently recording my first full-length, full-band album at Dead Aunt Thelma's Studio with engineer Matt Greco (Gino Vannelli) in Portland, and after the release of this record, I have ambitions of touring the Midwest, East Coast, and eventually the UK and Germany. I am interested on being on the label Xtra Mile Recording (USA, UK) who releases some of the best folk-punk music today! :)

Please get in touch with us at the email above. More info about the band below. Lula Wiles are an acoustic indie-folk trio based in the thriving roots community of Boston, MA. The band is deeply rooted in traditional folk music, but equally deep is their devotion to modern songcraft. Their 2016 debut album features 11 original songs spanning from heartbreak-drenched acoustic ballads to honky-tonk swagger to contemporary grit and back again, all anchored by rich vocal harmonies. Produced with Adam Iredale-Gray of Fish & Bird, the album was called "a stunning collection of self-penned songs about love, loss, and drinking – the perfect blend of modern and timeless” by singer-songwriter Aoife O'Donovan. The three band members swap instruments and frontwoman duties, with six songs penned and sung by fiddler/guitarist Ellie Buckland, four by fiddler/guitarist Isa Burke, and one by bassist Mali Obomsawin. When Lula Wiles performs, the band’s many years of friendship are clear from their effervescent vocal blend and electrifying musical chemistry. They have performed at premier festivals and clubs throughout the East Coast, including Club Passim, the Sinclair, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Fresh Grass Festival, and Green River Music Festival. They were also selected as Official Showcase Artists for the 2016 Folk Alliance International conference. Roots authority No Depression predicts Lula Wiles “will be a huge force on the Americana scene for years to come.” All proficient vocalists, multi-instrumentalists, and songwriters, the three women of Lula Wiles are each uniquely powerful in their own right; but combined, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Irish fiddler Haley Richardson- Official Showcase Artists Locked Topic 0 H. Richardson Haley and Dylan Richardson Contact Info Phone: 609-509-2405 Email: Category of Folk: Celtic/Traditional Irish Music Location: New Jersey Website:   Description of Music Haley is a 14 year old traditional Irish fiddler making her mark in the Irish music world. Over the past eight years, she has amassed a long list of accomplishments including multiple All Ireland championships and the 2015 Junior Fiddler of Dooney title and performed at venues in Ireland, England, Scotland, Canada, and all over the United States. Haley was featured in an article in Fiddler Magazine’s Fall 2015 issue. Multi-instrumentalist, Dylan backs Haley's melodies perfectly with his driving rhythmic guitar and bouzouki.  We released our debut album, Heart on a String, in March 2015. We are looking forward to our first Folk Alliance International conference and we'd love to play your private showcase!! Find out more at or   Here's what others have said about us...   The most astonishing young talent I have ever seen!                                   -Martin Hayes after listening to 7 year old Haley The first time I met Haley she was only five, I think. I was introduced to her by my friend, harpist Kathy DeAngelo. Kathy was her teacher and even though she had done a great job with her it was obvious that Haley was special. She was so comfortable with the instrument and really seemed to understand how the music was supposed to sound. It's no surprise she is still continuing to develop her playing every day- a natural player.                            -Kevin Burke, Fiddler Magazine Fall 2015 "Haley Richardson: A "Reel" Gift" by Mary Larson Haley's playing is infused with an integrity that comes from disciplined hard work and unwavering focus on one simple goal: to play the music with a traditional Irish sound.                                                                        -Brian Conway, liner notes of Heart on a String If you weren't aware that Haley Richardson was still a young child of 12, the maturity of her fiddle playing would give nothing away. In fact, her superb grasp of the essence of Irish music and its vast canon of beautiful melodies has already produced great wonderment at her skills and comfort in both performance and competition.                                                                                -Paul Keating, Irish Voice Columnist (From the Hob) There is so much about this album that is so very, very good. Critically, Haley shows a masterful musical maturity in her tempos, and a deep understanding of the music.                                                                                                                                     - There are airs, jigs, fabulous reels, and barn dances. Each is played flawlessly, with great taste. Haley and Dylan have resisted the urge so ruinously common in much of Irish music to play everything at 375 miles per hour. No, these tempos are perfect, as they are meant to be in Irish music. It gives us room to hear style and ornamentation....Oh, did we mention her brother, Dylan, is the old man of the operation. He is 17. By the way, his accompaniment is just about as perfect as Haley’s playing. If my math is correct, she was born in 2002. I’m stunned. I’m thrilled that the tradition is in such good hands.                                                                                                   - Chicago Irish American News An incredible fiddle player with a wonderful new album Heart on a String....has such exquisite maturity on this fiddle, arrangements, and tastes, everything she does, the techniques....This young lady has a tremendous grasp of what she's doing on the fiddle...Oh, by the way, the fiddle player you are about to hear right now is 12 years old.                                                                                                               - The Bill and Imelda Show The album is rife with interesting, high-level repertory (much of it common to players of the Sligo persuasion) and the Richardsons execute nicely throughout. Haley distinguishes herself in her playing, especially on “Porthole of the Kelp / …” (which has some flashy guitarwork from Dylan) “Bonnie Kate / …” (which features John Whelan) and ‘The Mathematician / …,” where her technical abilities are very much on display. Her well-realized version of “Lament for Staker Wallace” is another of the album’s highlights, as is her take on “Dear Irish Boy,” which features backing by Flynn Cohen.                                                                                                      - Daniel Neely, The Irish Echo A lively approach to playing, her bow seems to dance across the strings as she tackles 14 sets of sometimes quite difficult music.  She brings warmth to the melodies with her excellent intonation.  I’ve never been especially keen on airs – not all musicians can really do them justice, but Richardson is one of those who does....Dylan is almost ever-present with his guitar.  He has a strong sense of rhythm and is able to provide an inventive accompaniment throughout.                                                                                        - Jamie O'Brien, Irish Edition Newspaper They are significant because at the age of 12, Haley already displays a deep and innately felt understanding of this music.  A constant companion throughout is the equally impressive guitar work of brother Dylan.                                                                                           -Tony Lawless,  ...on "Heart on a String" [Haley] already displays a command of the fiddle and a focus and lift to her playing that belies her age.                                                                                           -Sean Smith, Boston Irish Reporter It is often easy, and sometimes essential, to give some sort of leeway when assessing younger talent, but none is given or needed here, as Haley ranks right up there with the best. Listen to Haley's rendition of The Dear Irish Boy, however, and you will hear both a superb technical competence and a subtlety of playing which highlights the emotions of the tune. Haley is one to watch out for, as well as listen to. I predict a fantastic musical future for her, and would recommend this album unreservedly.                                                                                           -Gordon Potter, The Living Tradition
