Diana Alvarez 0 D. Alvarez   Diana Alvarez 361-850-0024 Global / Queer Mexican Music / Xicana Xingona Singer-Songwriter "The virtuosic vocal finesse of Diana Alvarez is a wonder and a privilege to behold--and no surprise to witness every audience stunned into silent awe and transcendence."  -Pamela Means "Soulful and natural."  -Natalie Merchant "Diana’s voice, her ability to shift the room by allowing her research to inform her choices of sound, song selection, and phrasing is simply remarkable. For me personally, even on YouTube - her Quiero Volver: A Xicanx Ritual Opera trailer recalibrates my mood. This is true of so many of the women of color artists before her, like Bessie Smith for example – who was said to have been able to conjure with her voice."  -Sharon Bridgforth "Diana Alvarez writes the truth through a tincture of magic and prayer, and both the spirits and the living are cupping their ears to listen."  -Sean Nevin Dr. Diana Alvarez's fierce Xicana Xingona voice creates a gripping atmosphere that audiences call "transcendent." Alvarez's soulful, bilingual songs exalt queer love and liberation, and are drawn from her origins in the borderlands of South Texas, where she grew up singing to the Gulf of Mexico. In her music, Alvarez often grapples with her solo migration to the Northeast as a means to shift the tides of oppression in her family and beyond. Her songs are offerings for familia, and honor the "in-between-ness" of culture, identity, and language. Dr. Alvarez is the composer and filmmaker behind the multimedia performance, Quiero Volver: A Xicanx Ritual Opera. Described by the press as "a visually and acoustically stunning performance meant to honor women, non-binary and genderqueer people of color," Quiero Volver features Alvarez's original music, sonic text scores, a poem-script for ensemble performance, and documentary video portraits of Sharon Bridgforth, Magdalena Gómez, Vick Quezada, and Nicole M. Young. In 2018, Quiero Volver was produced at the Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton, MA by grassroots organizers and Smith College, and raised over $10,000 to support immigrant justice initiatives. Alvarez's music is fueled by her simultaneous work as an award-winning poet and documentary filmmaker. In addition to her poetry-script for Quiero Volver, Alvarez is the author of Consultations with Bruja Juana, a chapbook poetry collection published by Toadlily Press in 2009, and her poems also appear in The Best of Toadlily Press (2011). In 2018, Alvarez was commissioned to create a documentary for the world premiere of Sharon Bridgforth’s performance installation, dat Black Mermaid Man Lady at allgo, a statewide queer people of color organization in Austin, Texas. In addition to her documentary commissions for Bridgforth, Alvarez has directed her own music videos, as well as a music video for internationally recognized singer-songwriter and jazz musician, Pamela Means. Alvarez is Xicana from South Texas, and is the first in her family to graduate from college. She earned her MFA in Poetry from Sarah Lawrence College in 2008. In 2018, Diana earned her PhD in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she studied with groundbreaking composer Pauline Oliveros. Dr. Alvarez's dissertation research is titled, Bridge Artistx: Gatherings of Women, Non-Binary, and Genderqueer Artists of Color. Diana Alvarez is the recipient of the 2008 Agha Shahid Ali Poetry Prize from the Fine Arts Work Center (Provincetown, MA) and the Malcolm S. Morse Graduate Research Enhancement Award in Honor of Pauline Oliveros from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY). Alvarez has also been an artist-in-residence at Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada. In 2019, Diana Alvarez is recording her debut EP, Ser Artista. Dr. Alvarez teaches music and writing in Western Massachusetts and is a touring performer and invited guest lecturer / keynote speaker at venues and schools across the US.

Monica Rizzio 0 M. Rizzio   MONICA RIZZIO Website: Contact: Listen: Soundcloud Watch: YouTube Follow: Instagram // Facebook // Twitter   Here is a little bit about myself and my passion for original songwriting and live performance– Sunshine is Free, is my most recent album, released in October 2019, and has received accolades and acclaims.   The Bluegrass Situation featured the single, Don’t Keep Me Up Waiting, in September 2019. Growing up on the music of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton, my first instinct was to count beats like the the old country waltzes, 1, 2, 3… 1, 2, 3. Most of my writing the past few years has been a cocktail of one part Texas Roots, one part the miles of my boots, and I had never written a waltz before. The chorus for ‘Don’t Keep Me Up Waiting’ came to me before the rest of the song, as my husband and his buddies had a pretty good Sunday Night Irish Whiskey and Football ritual going on at the local pub last winter. They are totally harmless, were having a blast, but they are also totally clueless. This song is for them. ———————————————————————————————————————————— In mid-November, Ditty TV debuted the video for the title track, Sunshine is Free. For more information, please read my biography below and visit to learn more and listen to my music. ————————————————————————————————————————— BIO A bonfire on a beach. A couple of days with the one you love. Simply doing...nothing. The little joys in life. Americana singer-songwriter Monica Rizzio’s new album, Sunshine Is Free, is all about the simple things that make it all worth it. The concept for Sunshine Is Free was born on the road, as Rizzio spent time under open skies while touring. Realizing she needed to step outside of a New England winter to write the follow-up to 2016’s Washashore Cowgirl, Rizzio spent the fall of 2018 traveling from her home in Cape Cod to Nashville for writing sessions. Over a week in April at Skinny Elephant Recording, she and producer Michael Rinne (Caroline Spence, Erin Rae & The Meanwhiles, Kelsey Waldon) as well as a stacked lineup of guest musicians including Mindy Smith, Maya de Vitry, Gwen Sebastian, Joe Pisapia, Will Kimbrough, and Eamon McLoughlin, Rizzio created a collection that focuses on finding joy in simpler things and looking for the silver lining of difficult situations. Title track “Sunshine Is Free” is an upbeat number, expanded by an infectious bass line and a rollicking banjo. The Bootsays the song is “a reminder of the beautiful, happiness-inducing parts of life, from the free to the pricey, the minuscule to the massive.” “Nothin’” romanticizes a perfect day without a to-do list, spent reading Hemingway and sipping on a glass of wine. Billboard  noted the track’s "delicate acoustic guitar, steady percussion, soaring electric guitar parts and warm vocals.” The upbeat rocker “Story of My New Year” showcases Rizzio’s versatility as a singer and declares that as a new year rolls in, the future is boundless. Wide Open Country shined an early spotlight on “My Sweet Heart,” a love song advising a younger self whose heart is aching. Rizzio collaborated with longtime friend Mindy Smith for the first time on “While With You,” with PopMatters noting that the "love song [sinks] into its soothing groove early, with beautiful mandolin-driven instrumentation filling the spaces between the layered serenity of Rizzio and Smith's vocal performance." Featuring a Jerry Garcia-esque electric guitar, “The Shire” perfectly captures the ethos of The Berkshires in Western Massachusetts, where it was written. Growing up in a small town in East Texas, Rizzio did what many people do in such settings: she learned to sing gospel hymns in church and received an education in classic country music, listening to Willie Nelson, Buck Owens, Connie Francis and Dolly Parton. “Don’t Keep Me Up Waiting” is a waltz inspired by years of endlessly spinning Willie Nelson’s Red Headed Stranger album, premiered byThe Bluegrass Situation.   “Little Bit of Truth” centers around an eye-opening 30 days during Washashore Cowgirl’s album release tour, which found her reconciling evangelical childhood lessons with her current beliefs. On “Sunday” she examines the intricacies of a relationship gone wrong -- the track focuses on her faith and how that’s changed since she was a child.  Throughout Sunshine Is Free, it’s clear Rizzio has a keen ability to connect; her songs are often autobiographical, yet delivered through a fictional approach that creates a universal experience for the listener -- whether expressed using her trademark sense of humor or with such striking honesty that the pain in her voice is tangible. “Left with no choice to go my own way, out here looking for a little bit of truth,” she sings, and you can bet she’ll be happy to share the lessons she’s learned soon.  ———————————————————————————————————————————— “This récord will be an important record in her career. It not only showcases her songwriting skills, it also puts a well deserved spotlight on her it damn well should” (Raul Malo- THE MAVERICKS)

Durand Robinson Music 0 D. Robinson   Contact Info Phone: 720-878-8221 Email: Website: Category of Folk: Folk, Blues, Americana, Country Location: Alabama Description of Music: I play a mixture of original folk, bluegrass, celtic and country music with an ever present hint of the 70’s singer songwriters that formed me. I’m a singer songwriter playing venues and house concerts in the US and Europe for over 30 years. One of the nicest complements I ever got was from a country music song plugger who, after saying how much he liked my songs, said I’d never make it in radio because my songs actually say something.  Booking Goals: I’d love to fill as many weekends next year with venue and house concerts (from Fridays to Sundays) around the south, as well as several week-long tours in locations too far to do on a weekend. Click here to watch and listen to some sample clips of my music.

Ben Robert - Old Hippie Music (all original of course :)) 0 B. Bewley   Looking for some good music for your showcase?  My name is Ben Robert and I started playing live back in about 1971.  The specific date eludes me - no, not because of all the Mary Jane (or (ahem) "stronger stuff") but just because I neglected to note the date on my life-long perpetual calendar.  I am, however, an experienced performer quite comfortable in front of an audience.   There came a time in my life when I put a music career on the back burner to focus my time and attention to being a good father.  Free now to feed my muse, this is my first FAI convention.  I have good music to give ya!  I do a single show, no complications or fancy requirements.  Me, a guitar, a little harmonica, and you.   Phone is 615-861-1615 Email is Website would be Press Kit: YouTube channel:   I make music and memories.

Elma Niacci 0 E. Niacci Contact Info Phone: 514-795-4971 Email: Category of Folk: Ambient / Avant-Garde / Meditative Location: Montreal, Canada / Montpellier, France Description of Music A guitar player born in the South of France, Elma Niacci brings listeners on an acoustic instrumental journey across time and oceans, exploring a deep and meditative but always melodic sound tinged with Celtic, medieval and eastern influences as a troubadour lost in time...  You can listen more here, and watch more there, or even follow me on this thing.   Booking goals: Bonjour! I'm late to the party I know, but I'd love to play your private showcase, and try to captivate you in a few minutes! I'm coming a long way to attend this beautiful conference. You'll see I'm not the kind of act to play in bars and clubs,so I'm looking for the right people to bring my music to the right places, could be some selected festivals, house shows for intimate and unique performances, and especially looking toward people in the movie industry to work on soundtracks, as people keep telling me "you should be on a movie soundtrack." Truth is I don't know know exactly where to fit this music yet, but I know for sure it moves people inside... So I'm open to your suggestions and invitations! Can't wait to meet you.

CALLE SUR (Panamanian/Colombian Duo) 0 Calle Sur Calle Sur is what happens when you combine man and woman, Black and White, urban and rural. Hearing Calle Sur gives you that gorgeous feeling that something just left you tingling, but you can't say exactly why. Seeing Calle Sur is living proof that the terms "Hispanic" and "Latino" can't be summarized. Ed East is Panamanian. His upbringing in Panama City meant noise, hustle, bustle, and those chaotic smells and sights so characteristic of any Third World metropolis. It also meant a fierce need for individuality and lots of musical innovation and creativity, as expressed in the work of his compatriot, Rubén Blades. Karin Stein, his Colombian partner, brings to the music of Calle Sur the perspective of her rural upbringing. Very rural, that is.  She is a cowgirl from the eastern Llanos or plains of Colombia. No kidding. While he rode buses and watched TV, she rode horses and watched the red ibis stalk across emerald green rice fields. There was no TV in her neck of the woods. No electricity for that matter. Only a small transistor radio which sometimes worked, and from which she gleaned tidbits of an outer world. His veins were filled with the fusion of world beats converging in a big city. Her soul harbored haunting cowboy tunes from her traditional Llanero culture, a fascinating people whose music remains one of Latin America's best kept secrets. They met in Iowa, of all places. They discovered that they both had moved to Iowa on student scholarships, had stayed, and had built a life in a foreign but welcoming land, where their Latin heritage began to blend with their predominantly Anglo-Saxon surroundings. They have been pioneers in a state that has seen a significant influx of Latinos only in the last 15 years. Calle Sur has performed in 46 of the 50 continental United States, and abroad as far as Malaysia and Romania.  They have composed the film score for three documentaries, and their music has been featured in two feature-length movies.  Calle Sur is comfortable performing anything from house concerts to large-venue concerts - either as a duo or as part of one of their eight Artes Latinas Ensembles ( This duo has charisma. It has class. And it has talent to boot. One minute, Ed's drumming makes you jump to your feet. The next, you sway to the samba he plays on his guitar. Karin strums a mean 6/8 beat on her Venezuelan cuatro, then effortlessly switches to Bolivian panpipes. Ed's versatile voice takes you from guajira and jazz to bossa nova and salsa tunes. Karin melts you away with a Ladino lullaby, then swings you with an Afro-Caribbean cumbia.  And when they sing one of their boleros together, be prepared to feel goosebumps run up and down your spine!

Guitar virtuoso, Shane Hennessy-seeks private showcase opprotunities 0 David Shaughnessy Guitar virtuoso, Shane Hennssy, is seeking private showcase opportunities at FAI NOLA.  Shane has an official showcase with Culture Ireland on Wednesday, January 22.  He would love to perform at a few private showcase rooms as well.    Shane Hennessy is an Irish virtuoso guitarist, songwriter, & composer. Coming from a background in Irish traditional music, Shane has been captivating audiences globally for the past few years, with sell-out solo tours in Europe, Russia, and the United States under his belt, as well as regular appearances at major international music festivals. Described by legendary guitarist Tommy Emmanuel as “a brilliant entertainer and an amazing musician who transcends the guitar the same way Muhammed Ali transcended boxing”, Shane has developed an unmistakably unique voice on the guitar, blending his native Irish music with elements of jazz, country, blues, funk, classical, soul, world, and hip-hop, both vocally and instrumentally. His live shows are known for their energy and variety - “anything from Bach to Beyoncé!; Irish Music Magazine have called him “one of the most exciting live performers of his generation”. In 2019, Shane was a firm favourite on the festival scene in the United States, appearing at prestigious roots festivals such as MerleFest (Wilkesboro, NC) and Appaloosa (Front Royal, VA), as well as numerous Irish and Celtic Festivals including Milwaukee Irish Fest (WI), Kansas City Irish Fest (MO), Irish Fest Chicago (IL), Michigan Irish Music Fest (Muskegon, MI), and many more. Shane has released two albums of original music - Zephyrus (2015), and Marrakech (2017). A third album is due for release in early 2020. He has also worked with Riverdance composer and Grammy-winner Bill Whelan, and in 2017 he sold out a solo show in Ireland’s National Concert Hall for the release of ‘Marrakech’. To quote Marty Whelan of RTÉ Radio (Ireland): “There was part of me that didn't really believe that he could do what he does on one guitar until he came into the studio, sat down in front of me, and played. I thought there had to be loops, or extra tracks, or recording tricks, and there was none of that - my jaw dropped! What a talent!” Please contact David Shaughnessy with Uptown Artist Group for more info.

Katherine’s soaring alto moves effortlessly through all facets of the folk genre – whether sharing a strong, haunting cry from an Appalachian-inspired murder ballad; leading a powerful, passionate call for social justice; or engaging her audiences to “join the choir” in a rousing singalong. Her 2019 release Unfortunate Point of View features seven original songs and four folk classics (including the #1 original song in January), and has spent eight consecutive months on the Folk Alliance Folk DJ charts. More than 20 Folk DJs across the country listed Katherine's self-produced album on their weekly top ten lists, and the accolades don’t stop there. Katherine Rondeau’s voice holds authenticity and soul in every note. Modern folk music in the finest tradition of the form. (Justin Helmer, KVSC) Booking Goals Folk world domination?
